This deviantion [link] was my inspiration to do up my westernsaddle and make it look more like a warhorse's saddle. I love the result, it came out better than I thought. It took loads of nerves to cut up a perfectly good sheepskin en make it into the cover. The breastpiece is bought, but the backpiece is made out of scraps of leather tack. The reins are custom made by my design and the headstall is again made from scrap of leather tack. The tassels are made out of the hair that used to be his mane.
The headstall in the drawing will be a project for some future day and might be made out of leather or tabletweaving. I also might still adjust the sheepskin where my legs are ( fenders) and shave of even more furr and add the knotwork type fender somehow.
