My little helmet. It once was made completely out of leather, but I lost a part of it somewhere in France while doing a LARP thingy. So I had to redo it and though I might have a go at a hard shell under the leather. And also as I could take a couple of rings out of my mail (I got thinnner hurrah!) decided on a bit of a neckguard.
The leather was taken for a chair left out for the garbage, resuced by me and my trusty pocket knife. I scored out the knotwork and polished it with shoepolish to darker and nourish.
Above the eye pieces are horses, accented them in silverpaint. And on the front is my name in runes.. Signe ( *from the norse: Sig-Ny sig= victory Ny= new, thanks to my parents!). The cheek bits have a nice concho on it, which I simply bought at tandyleather US [link]. On the back is the rune for protection, one of my favorite runes ( if not the favorite) And on the sides you can see the face of a dragon or something. I wanted the rivets to be part of the design.
The hard shell is made of..... shall I say? No.. made of a secret componant LoL!
And the neck mail is made of washer rings and little links from a chain. Yes.. you read correctly.. washer rings! Posh!
The photo's are a bit shiny, the helm is not so shiny in real live. To see the details, put your nose up against your computer screen or click the zoom option. :duh:
Anyway hope you like, this will also be available for the wonderful clubs I joined: and

i feel that the chain mail would look better if done the european vertical style...
heres a web site that teaches you how to do it... (the link on the european vertical style is at the bottom of the page) [link]
other than that, i feel that this fine piece is another hit for you as well as another great addition to ~TheKnotters gallery... thank you for submitting this.
I do like chain mail, but my mail shirt is ringmail (of the same kind) and as I am a coordinated lass.... I am keeping it ringmail if you don't mind. That website is a great intruction for the starting chainmailmakers and I keep reccommending it to peeps with questions.

You can judge a man's character by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people
will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
